Laws for building a civilization.

From what we have read so far, we conclude that Ishmael believes that there are laws that exist regarding to how a civilization should be built. However, I don't see how there could be universal laws that suit every civilization. Civilizations in the history that collapsed all appeared in different locations, in other word, the environments were entirely dissimilar. In that case, the chance of having the same cause for collapse was low. There are physics laws, such as the 3 Newton Laws but it's hard to imagine that there are laws exist to indicate whether a civilizational flight will truly fly or not. In science, there are right and wrong, but is there a right or wrong way to save our civilization? That's something we can think about. Hopefully, Ishmael will convince me later that there are universal laws.

If there are, according to Ishmael, laws that govern the success or collapse of a civilization, then as humans we are definitely ignoring them. Serious problems are occurring right now, such as the lack of natural resources: gasoline, clean water, and trees. These phenomenons show that things are getting worse, and we are not doing anything significant to fix the problems. Maybe it's because we don't recognize the laws, or maybe there are no laws, maybe we are doomed to face extinction. If there are laws for civilization, then we should start following them right now.

I agree, it's really hard to think of a LAW for civilization. I mean, if there is one...Well...Who knows?

I think no matter what we do, choosing to abandon our "flying" vehicle, or to keep falling down. I think we will all die one day anyway.:D

I am sure that someday we will get more "wise." I still don't believe that there are certain laws for our life. And for Max, I don't agree with it. Even though we are falling down now, we are going to fly up to the sky before we reach the ground. We just don't realize that we have a parachute.

I do not know about that Max. I mean, I really dont like the analogy of flying in the air. Do not ask me why...it's just the way I feel.Probably is the absurd notion that we will not know if we are free falling off a cliff or not. Then again, humans can be stupid.

"I think we will die one day anyway" Max

This is exactly the attitude Ishmael is talking about. Not to pick on you max, I still feel this way as well, but if we keep thinking like that, we WILL die.

Justin I think there are such laws to these rules, however laws are there to be broken.

Interesting thoughts. I wonder if there is a difference between the laws that govern the creation of civilization, and the laws that govern its maintenance. Do the same laws apply to the Incan and Mayan civilizations, and to our civilization today? Do things like technology and larger populations make establishing and agreeing on laws more difficult?
